Character Breakdown (Vocal audition parts highlighted) -
Belle - Belle is a smart, confident young woman from a small village. She must be a strong actress and singer, able to stand up to both Gaston and the Beast, while also showing compassion to those who do not understand her.
Maurice - Maurice is an eccentric older inventor and, more importantly, the adoring and protective father of Belle. The actor should enjoy playing the “crazy old man” while conveying fear, sincerity, and deep fatherly love.
Beast - The Beast is the master of the castle, transformed by the Enchantress’s spell. This role requires an actor who can handle a complex character: a dictator, a hurt child, a hero, a defender, and ultimately a smitten prince.
Gaston - Gaston is pompous, arrogant, and determined to win Belle’s hand at any cost. He is full of confidence but lacks humility. The actor must sell Gaston’s bravado and lead moments of both comedy and menace, including “Gaston” and “The Mob Song.”
LeFou - LeFou is Gaston’s equally dim-witted sidekick and comic foil. He should double the laughs for both characters and be able to sing, act, and dance.
Silly Girls - The Silly Girls are infatuated with Gaston and will do almost anything to be near him. These roles require strong comedic commitment and the ability to sing well together as an ensemble.
Lumière - Lumière is a charming, self-confident French maître d’ who has been transformed into a candelabra. He is romantic, theatrical, and optimistic, with a playful rivalry with Cogsworth. This role requires strong stage presence and reliability.
Cogsworth - Cogsworth is the rule-bound English major-domo of the castle, transformed into a mantel clock. He is anxious yet deeply loyal and often clashes humorously with Lumière.
Mrs Potts - Mrs Potts is the castle’s warm-hearted cook, enchanted into a teapot. She is nurturing, maternal, and provides emotional grounding throughout the story.
Babette - Babette is the castle maid and resident flirt, transformed into a feather duster. She enjoys the finer things in life but reveals her softer heart in “Human Again.”
Madame de la Grande Bouche - Madame is an opera singer transformed into a wardrobe. She is larger-than-life in personality, voice, and movement, embracing theatricality at every opportunity.
Chip - Chip is Mrs Potts’s young son, transformed into a teacup. He is innocent, curious, and full of wonder, bringing warmth and joy to the castle.
